Role Overview-

Tesserent is seeking a full-time Cloud Network Engineer to join our team based anywhere in Australia. The primary focus of the Network Engineer is to design/deploy and resolve technical issues on network and security technologies and provide support to our customers.

This role "owns" the network, you will be expected to understand the physical and logical design, to plan to grow it, maintain it in accordance with best practices, document it, and mentor others.


Roles and responsibilities-

  • Understand the existing designs and architect the solution for new and existing customers.
  • Assisting with and/or leading the design, architecture and capacity planning, maintenance and expansion of network and security platforms.
  • Own the technical standards and governance for technology domains (in both Network & Security).
  • Providing technical monitoring and management of cloud infrastructure to ensure they continually meet the defined performance, reliability, functionality and security requirements agreed with the business.
  • Leading the analysis, design, documentation, planning, deployment and testing of complex adds, moves, changes and customer projects and ensure assigned tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Using data and other techniques to identify recurring issues being reported or occurring for systems under management.
  • Identifying and implementing automation of regular tasks to improve efficiency of the team and increase the reliability, performance and functionality of customer solutions.
  • Provide support and troubleshooting to resolve issues as part of an on-call rotation
  • Leading project deployments plus operational support across Networks & Security domains including:
  • Design and deployment with advanced routing and switching technologies across multi-vendor platforms (Fortinets / Palo-Altos / Cisco / Juniper / Brocades, VPNs, QOS etc.)
  • Design and deployment of the SDWAN platforms.
  • Wireless networking technologies.
  • Design and deployment of the NSX-T platforms.
  • Private & Public Cloud networking (VMware, Azure & AWS)


Competencies-

 

Technical-

  • Tertiary degree in Networking, Computer Science or a relevant discipline is preferred, but not essential.
  • 5+ years' experience in a previous Network Engineer role, preferably within Cloud Infrastructure, or similar role with a strong desire to provide service to the customer beyond their expectations.
  • Solid experience across Cisco, Juniper, Fortigate and Palo Alto platforms.
  • A strong background in networking and security with a deep understanding of advance routing, switching, firewalls and security concepts.
  • Vendor or Industry certifications such as CCIE, CISSP, CISM etc, is preferred.
  • Experience with virtualisation technologies (primarily VMware vCenter & NSX Manager managing NSX V/T environments).
  • A passion and drive for continuous learning and self-improvement coupled with the ability to quickly gain an understanding and competency in new technologies.
  • Solid understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model
  • Knowledge of ITIL methodologies would be beneficial.

  • Excellent written and verbal skills to clearly explain concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Must be able to identify leads with the Sales team and assist with the development those leads to attain further opportunities and ongoing work.
  • Understanding of utilisation goals and ability to proactively manage to the desired outcome.
  • Strong understanding of arrangements for small to large projects and able to demonstrate value of service offerings to clients.
  • Ability to articulate desired state outcomes for clients and the ROI delivered through engagements.

Interpersonal & Intrapersonal Skills-

  • Self-managing, motivated and pro-active
  • Ability to speak confidently and accurately and to recommend best practices to all relevant stakeholders and C-level executives.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience-

  • Tertiary degree in Networking, Computer Science or a relevant discipline is preferred, but not essential.
  • 5+ years' experience in a previous Network Engineer role, preferably within Cloud Infrastructure, or similar role with a strong desire to provide service to the customer beyond their expectations.
  • Has worked in a team of individuals in a cloud and infrastructure environment.
  • Ability to articulate business implications and risks in relation to the business.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly explain concepts.
  • Open-minded and forward-thinking in terms of vision for the business and team culture.
  • Ability to work as a team with decisions made to support moving toward common goals.
  • Professional certifications are an advantage
  • Experience working in a Pre-Sales function would be advantageous but not mandatory.
