“As the owner of the company, I feel it’s necessary to respond directly to Blue Key IT’s attempt to deflect responsibility for what was a serious and damaging failure on their part.
To be clear, this was not a case of a client “not following recommendations.” This was a breakdown in basic security, a failure in incident response, and conduct by their team that I find completely unacceptable.
We were first alerted by an external IT firm that phishing emails were being sent from our domain, something that should have been identified and addressed by Blue Key IT before it ever reached that point. After escalating the issue to them, our systems were fully compromised within 24 hours. That is not due to “limited access,” that is a failure to properly secure and manage the environment they were responsible for.
What is even more concerning is what occurred even before the breach.
One of their employees remotely accessed my computer and logged into my personal email account without my knowledge or permission. This happened prior to our systems being compromised. As the owner of the company, I cannot overstate how serious that is. That is not standard practice, it is not acceptable, and it raises major concerns about judgment, boundaries, and internal controls.
Instead of addressing these issues with accountability, their response attempts to shift blame onto us by referencing MFA and access limitations. Let me be very clear, restricting administrative access to sensitive systems like payroll is intentional and appropriate. No responsible business owner hands over full control of critical financial systems without a clear, justified need and a high level of trust. Trying to use that as an excuse only further demonstrates a lack of understanding of proper security practices.
Additionally, their handling of the incident itself was disorganized and ineffective. There was no clear direction, no urgency, and no leadership at a time when our business operations were actively being impacted. We were left managing a crisis that we relied on them to handle.
I trusted this company to protect our systems and act professionally in a critical situation. They failed on both counts.
To add to this, after the review was posted, the owner of the company reached out offering to refund the amount we paid in exchange for taking the review down. That alone speaks volumes. Attempting to resolve a situation like this by asking for a review to be removed rather than fully owning the severity of what occurred only reinforces our decision and concerns.
Their response here only further validates the decision to terminate services. Instead of taking responsibility, they have consistently chosen to deflect and minimize serious issues.
Other business owners should take this as a warning and proceed with extreme caution.”“We’ve had a very disappointing experience with Bluekey IT. The company’s management and communication are extremely poor — no clear updates, missed promises, and a lack of accountability. For an IT services company, this level of disorganization is unacceptable.

Their Virtual Office solution is also scalable. We can add or remove users as needed by leasing the software on a monthly basis. In 2012 we began using a hosted PBX solution for our phones which has allowed us to seamlessly integrate multiple office locations. “Waiting until you’ve been hacked is the wrong time to get serious about cybersecurity. We use Bensinger Consulting for cybersecurity services and we have never been hacked. They keep our firewall and network devices impregnable from outside hackers clacking away at their keyboards. They also provide our employees with ongoing training and phishing emails. If anyone clicks on a link, Bensinger Consulting receives notification and follows up with targeted training. Bensinger Consulting is not the cheapest IT company, but price isn’t the issue. The issue is value. Going with a cheaper IT company won’t save you money in the long run if your most valuable assets are vulnerable to hackers and naïve employees. I have known other business owners who did NOT take cybersecurity seriously and THEY WERE HACKED. I sleep well at night knowing that Bensinger Consulting keeps safe everything for which I have worked so hard.”
